Arthur Lamon posted a new pallet project on his web site today well worth taking a look at. This bench reminds me of a sawhorse in the way its constructed, but has a lot of charm and looks easy-to-build and practical. Check out all the details over at Arthurs web site.

I am excited to announce a project Ive been working on for a few weeks now and I hope you will consider participating. Please watch the video below which will explain more. (Dont worry, I have a regular woodworking video tomorrow!)
Woodworking for Mere Mortals is the most time-consuming full-time job Ive ever had.  I love every minute of it and wouldnt trade my work for anything. The only part I dont particularly enjoy is spending a lot of time marketing in order to generate the ad revenue that keeps me in business. Unfortunately, the advertisements tend to become a barrier between me and the people who support WWMM the most.  My goal is to keep producing fun woodworking projects with less dependence on advertisers.
Click to get involved!
This is where Subbable comes in. It is brand new and something of an experiment at this point. Its vision is to provide a platform wherein viewers can directly support their favorite shows and earn perks in the process.
Most importantly, please understand that I will never to charge for my videos. I believe that allowing free access to woodworking info will pay itself back in future generations. If you arent in a position to support WWMM financially, I am completely cool with that.
But if you have enjoyed my show over the years and would like to help out, please consider a voluntary subscription. You can subscribe with any amount you feel WWMM is worth. Now heres the neat part: every dollar you spend goes into your "Perk Bank". You can save your perks and redeem them at various levels for all sorts of stuff available only to subscribers!
Please consider getting involved and learn more on my Subbable project page.

Making toys is very rewarding. Paul Jobbins made this "bead board" sorter for his son Zach. Any of you with toddlers know that toys such as this fascinate little ones. Its open-ended play fuels their imaginations.

Bill Bumpus sent over this picture of a head band holder that I found very clever. Makes me want to try making a wood headband, too.
Not only that, but hes been cranking out trivets too!
*****
Benjamin Zupancic from Slovenia is back with more versions of my projects. He modeled this one after my sliding-lid box, but added a magnetic lid.
And yes, he made a garden bench, too. I really like his modifications and the ways he shaped it.

And heres Don Robertos bench with a new, beefier take on the backrest.
*****
Not enough benches you say? Ha. Simion Horatiu from Romania built these two. One similar to mine and the other with a cool storage area in the seat.

Heres Dan Cooks version of my Shaker style coat rack I made just about a year ago. He made his out of cedar and it looks gorgeous.

Finally, Hans S. from the Czech Republic clued me onto this video from Festool showing a really cool home-made round peg jig. This one looks easy to make and a lot of fun to try. (If you dont speak German, youll have no trouble getting the gist of this video.)

Spring is almost here!
Since March first is tomorrow, this is my official "kicking off spring" project. Yeah, I know spring doesnt start for a few more weeks and I realize many of you are still under a mountain of snow, but why not start looking forward to the coming season? Building a springy-type project will get you in a thawing-out frame of mind!
This tool tote can be made to function as a toolbox or as a decorative piece. As I began building mine, I realized that I liked it better as a planter. I suppose its like building a workbench that is so nice to look at that you dont want to scratch it!
However you wish to approach this, its a super-easy project you can make in a day. If you dont have a tablesaw, you can simplify it by eliminating the angled sides and cutting out all the pieces with a jigsaw. The dowel pins arent necessary: I added mine after the glued-up sides were dry, so they are mostly decorative.
Inkjet-to-wood photo transfer
The ink-transfer technique is a blast! If you dont build this toolbox, try out this image-to-wood transfer on something. Just print out any image on a sheet of label backing on your inkjet printer. I found my pictures on Google Images and printed them in reverse so the text was facing the right way. I also bumped up the color saturation a bit, but I love the faded look on wood!

One of the real joys of doing Woodworking for Mere Mortals is being able to see the creativity of younger folks and show it off here. Well, I guess anyone younger than 40 is young folk to me, but in this case Mark Yates is 15. He lives in Tasmania and here is some of his work.
If you have a bandsaw, sooner or later you will get bandsaw box fever! Here is a fine example. Love the smooth, flowing design. Very organic looking, reminds me of a leaf. Love the knot in the top.
My wind spinner project! I mentioned this on Monday, but I just love the way you all are painting these things! BTW, in a follow-up to that video, I recommended using fishing spinners rather than that dog-leash type of swivel. I replaced mine and it spins much better.
Now this one goes back a couple years. Remember this? Its a little maze puzzle. They are fun to make and actually quite tricky to solve.
And what is it sitting on?  A natural edge side table. Mark made this and the bandsaw box out of  huon pine.
And finally, Marks shop. Thanks for the pictures and keep sawing!
